Altered IKEA Mirrors--Part 1

Several months ago we bought 9 of the Malma frames, knowing we could use them somewhere. But instead they sat in a closet all this time!  I finally decided to pull them out and brainstorm.   It's not a new idea.  They're basically designed to be personalized at home, since they're just unfinished wood.

I didn't prime them or anything, just started painting.  I used this super cheap paint from Michael's and chose the Espresso color.

Regular price: 59 cents.  Purchased on sale for half off.  It's a little thin, so the wood just soaked up the first coat.  It had a cool effect, kind of like staining, but I couldn't keep the look consistent enough to leave them that way.

Stay tuned for part 2.

  2. Looks good so far! Can't wait to see what the finish is. Wish we had an IKEA close by, unfortunately ours is 4 hours away! Yikes!
