Me and the Blues

I have a strange relationship with the color blue.

Let's take a look at some of the color combos that caught my eye recently from the blog Design Seeds  I put them all on one of my Pinterest board with ideas of what rooms I might like to decorate in those colors.  Notice any themes?

Laundry room

How about BLUE BLUE BLUE BLUE BLUE BLUE BLUE.

(Does that word look really funny to anyone else now?)

So, what's the problem you might say?  Well, I seem to love the color blue.  But I don't know how to use it.  I've tried decorating with blue and I struggle.  Let me give you some examples.

Blue wall in our last house (had a blue door to the basement too)

Blue bathroom in this house

Blue "art" in this house (recently painted over, so there's a blank wall again)

And I honestly haven't loved any of them.

I feel like these lamps were a success at least.

And I think I can wear blue just fine.

So, what are you suggestions for how to get blues into my house?  Maybe I just need to keep it off my walls is all.  Show me pictures of your blue successes!!

  1. I painted my entry way blue, my coffee table blue, an end table blue, mats in picture frames blue, and I even spray painted some candles blue. I think blue is awesome. Just get creative with it!

  2. I have blue accents and a Sailboat Ocean Blue quilt in my living room. It is like ocean blues and teal with our chocolate brown furniture. I love all of those color palettes you have posted, those are so beautiful.

  3. My den is painted 2 deep shades of blue with a two-part texture roller, one side in each shade (1/2 of paint tray). Didn't work as promised, but it's a BLUE room Changing purpose to craft room, cluttered pic on craftythriftydecoratingwifemom.wordpress.com in post "Got a Jealous Bone" if you want to see. New blog, gotta shorten that name. Suggestions?

  5. You sure did find some great pins to inspire you. I have a blue & white board on my pinterest that might help you?

I am actually hosting my weekly Pinterest linky party right now if you would like to check it out. It is pink in honour of a very dear friend of mine who passed away from breast cancer last week.

    Take care and best wishes,
    Natasha.

  6. Steph, the only blue I have in my house is in my bathroom, which are my shower curtain and window curtain. I think accessories really dress up a room. So that may be the way to go.

I can finally leave comments once again. I'm using Chrome instead of Fire Fox.

  7. I'm here from C.R.A.F.T. I love blue. I have used maps to decorate in the past. I also have tan (burlap color to be exact) and pale blue in my bedroom. I can't wait to see what you do with blue!

  8. I definitely tend to lean towards blues in my clothing but I don't know that I have ever used it in decorating my house.
How do I find your Pinterst boards?

  9. I think maybe the blues you've used in the past are not blues you find in nature so they don't "flow" well.. maybe? Perhaps try using softer blues or blues that you see in nature.
