Hope you all have a great one!
I'm going to show you a little of what's been going on, and what's coming up.
I sent the girls to school today with turkey clips in their hair, and they were so excited that I added googly eyes.
Yesterday Asher turned 3 and for months he's been asking for a helicopter cake. I'm not so great with cake decorating, but here's what I came up with for him.
I took a big slice of the Costco chocolate cake we bought for my birthday that was Sunday and stirred it all up so the cake and frosting were mixed together. Then I just scooped spoonfuls out on to a plate and smooshed and molded it into a helicopter shape. I colored the tops of two popsicle sticks with black marker and glued one on top of the other. When it dried I pressed them down gently on the top of the cake. I was pretty sure my shaky hand would ruin the whole thing if I tried to draw windows or anything with frosting, so I just left it like this. It passed--and he loved it!
Now that birthdays are done (a couple of weeks til the next one anyway) we'll move full force into Thanksgiving prep--just our little family at home this year.
Then I'll spend several days setting up at the Festival of Nativities.
Here's a peek at a few things I made for decorations there.
I turned all these Goodwill vases into old world pottery.
I decorated a bunch of wine and olive oil bottles (don't worry, I didn't drink all--or any--of the wine from these) with spray paint and epsom salt. You'll find a great tutorial there if you want to make some. My added notes: primer works better than cheap white and they definitely need to be sealed with spray acrylic or the salt falls off when you so much as look at them.
I sure hope everything looks ok when I'm all done with my display! I'll be sure to post pictures when it's complete, and then you can all be nice and tell me it looks wonderful.
And don't forget to come check it out in person if you're near the area at all. Don't be afraid to bring your kids either as it's set up for whole families plus there are a couple of rooms with activities and displays just for them.
On a totally unrelated note, but keeping with the Christmas spirit of giving, check out my friend's Scentsy fundraiser to help one of our friends with cancer treatment bills. If you love their items and might order some for yourself or Christmas gifts anyway, why not have part of it go to a good cause as well!
