Here is another creation that came out of cutting up my leather jacket. I turned an earring into a ring. I guest posted this at A Law Student's Journey to kick of my month of free advertising I won from her :)
I've never been much of a ring-wearer. One of the reasons is that my fingers are just so darn tiny (it's amazing I can play the piano at all.) As a reference point, my wedding ring is size 4 3/4! That means I never really find rings in my size. And even the adjustable ones almost seem to pinch before they fit. At least I know I'll never be accused of having man hands! (though strangely, after posting this picture of my hand, I'm suddenly more self conscious of sharing it than of sharing my face :)
Anyway, I recently purchased these earrings on clearance for a few dollars, but found that they didn't lay right in my ears, so I'd never be comfortable wearing them. But I still like the chunky look of them.
I ended up clipping off the post off the earring and using E6000 to glue it to a small strip of leather. Then I wrapped it around my finger for sizing and stitched it together with some invisible thread. I tried hot glue at first but it didn't bond well with the leather and came right apart after it dried.
I can't guarantee that this is a super durable creation--perhaps if I were to acquire some welding skills or something I could come up with something a little more stable, but I'll bet I get a few uses out of it and it will be fun to wear around and pretend like I'm a fashionable ring wearer :)
This technique would also work great to make a ring out of a really cool button. Then you wouldn't have to use any glue...just sew the button right onto the leather band with thread.
This is another one I made by making a tiny leather flower (like how I made the necklace) and sewing it on.
I hope you've been inspired, and have a great day. Thanks for stopping by!
