Better Mom Day 10: Have a Routine

If you're new to the 31 day series, over 1200 bloggers have chosen a theme they want to write about every day in October ranging from food or fashion to faith or fabric.  See the whole list at The Nester.  I decided to focus on trying to be a better mom, and you can see my first post here.

Day 10: Have a Routine

I talked the other day about my kids morning routine and chore sticks.  I have stuff I'm supposed to do in the morning too.  I should get dressed and make my bed and make the girls' lunches, and make sure all 3 kids get breakfast and clean up the kitchen along the way, and empty the dishwasher so they can put their breakfast dishes in it.
But (and you guys are learning all about my bad habits in this series aren't you) sometimes *I* have a hard time staying focused!

I start reorganizing something, or check my email, or think I should paint a first coat on something (anything) so it will be ready for me to work on later when they're at school.

Today I stayed away from any screens (yes, including my phone) til the girls were on the bus.  I didn't let myself get distracted by my activity I'm helping with at church tonight..I just made sure I was doing my responsibilities and keeping the girls on track too.  Definitely made for a much better morning.  And you know what, when I did get around to the computer later...the world had not ended and I hadn't missed anything.  Here's to making this the new habit!

  1. Good stuff. I actually got up earlier this morning so I could get all my screen stuff done before I started my morning routine, and still get out of the house just after 8:00am. I have to say, it easier to have a morning routine when my husband doesn't get home until after 7:30am. That's probably a third shift family issue, but just the same, the more family members you have to tend to in the morning, the harder it is to get stuff done. The hardest part of my routine though is sitting still and having quiet time.

  2. I really need to set a "screen" time. I spend far too much time on my computer and on my phone. I think that is going to be a November goal for myself, just scheduling my own "screen" time and logging off for the rest of the time. I am sure I could get far more done if I did.
