Better Mom Day 3: Please (also Spider Web Jewelry)

One thing I love about my paper earrings is that they’re totally customizable.  With Halloween right around the corner, I thought it would be fun to create a set with a matching necklace too.  And while spiders creep me out, sparkly spider webs are A-OK!

Here’s what I used:
black cardstock
glitter paint (it dries clear, just leaving the sparkles, so a glittler glue would work here too)
Glossy Accents
earring hooks
necklace chain (I had a spare one already…you could also just use ribbon)
spider web SVG from Lori Whitlock

How to:
Cut 3 spider web shapes on your digital cutter (I did 2 at 2 inches, for the earrings, and 1 at 3 inches for the pendant)

Remove webs from mat and paint with glitter paint.  Let dry.
Lightly apply Glossy Accents to the webs, trying to keep it from filling in the holes in the shape.  Let dry.

Slide larger web onto a necklace chain. Link earring hooks onto the smaller webs and pinch closed with pliers.

Then show off your sparkly Halloween accessories!

Day 3: Say Please

Parenting can feel like a double standard sometimes.  I tell my kids no dessert, but eat ice cream after they’re asleep. They have to make their bed before having breakfast, but I often don’t fix mine til after they’re at school.  I’m at least working on the bed thing (I like it better when my bed is made too)

And in the same 5 minutes, I can find myself barking demands at them, but then staring at them blankly waiting for them to remember to say “please” before I’ll hand them their cup of milk I have in my hand.

Today’s focus was to say “Please” myself as much as I could, trying to remind them what they needed to do without just giving orders.  I’d like to think it made our morning go a little smoother, and really, it helped keep me level headed.  It’s hard to yell when you’re saying please 🙂
