Bookshelf to Bench

You’ve seen it done before, right?  The Ikea bookshelves turned into a bench with cubbies…  It was the right idea for under the girls’ window, but once turned on its side it would be too long and would take up too much of the precious floor space in there.

But I found a smaller, perfect bookshelf at Salvation Army for just $15!  I was so excited to find just what I needed for cheap!

I used tiny nails to attach the shelves to the sides (now top and bottom)…and it was not easy!  I kept missing the actual shelf, but I finally got them all secured.

I already had paint, so I painted it inside and out, adding blue to the sides.  (and I painted the shelves blue before I nailed them in place)  I picked up the pink baskets from Michael’s on clearance and now the majority of books hang out in there.

Next up I need to figure out a cushion top for it.  Do you have tutorial suggestions for me?

And if you have furniture posts of  your own, come share them at the Point of View link party!

(want to see how I made the curtains?  Ruffle curtain tutorial here)

Also, I occasionally post for Undercover Tourist, a site full of Disney info and discount tickets, and today I have a cute and easy t-shirt over there.  Go check it out and tell ’em I sent ya!
