See Me at the Phat Quarters Blog Today!

I love meeting local bloggers, and I love showing off new blogs too!   If you love finding new creative souls, go check out the Phat Quarters blog.

I met Gemia (one of the crafty ladies over there) while working on the Festival of Nativties last year, and I loved all her beautiful song-lyric inspired boards that she used to decorate her space.

You'll also get to see the kids' jewelry holder I made for my girls!

Don't Own Washi Tape Yet?

Pick Your Plum has washi tape for just $1.50 a roll, and they've just ordered more, so you should be able to get any color you want still!

They all remind me of spring, which just makes me happy :)

PVC Pipe Toothbrush Holders

When we remodeled our hall bathroom last summer I knew we had to come up with new toothbrush holders. We hated the long skinny counter that went all the way across the toilet tank so we made it disappear.  But that meant we were left with a tiny vanity, nearly no counterspace, and kids who weren't really tall enough to reach the shelves we'd installed.

PVC Pipe Toothbrush Holder by Crafting in the Rain

That's when these toothbrush holders were born.  Hidden away on the inside of the cupboard door they are easily accessible and removable if we need them to be.

1 inch pvc pipe
pvc pipe end caps (one for each holder)
command hooks
vinyl or stickers
pvc pipe cutter
drill (drill press is even better)

Cut pipe into 4.25 inch sections.

Drill a hole about 1/2 inch from the end, making sure it's on the "back side" where any printing is.

Drill holes in PVC

Wash the pipes.  Cut vinyl initials (or use stickers) to label each holder.  I cut mine to be 1 inch tall. Add end caps (they don't need to be glued on, and then you can disassemble them later and wash them out as needed)

Vinyl on pvc pipe

Install command hooks on the inside of the cabinet door.  Our vanity is small, so more may fit in your doors if you need them.  Let them set for 1 hour before hanging holders and toothbrushes.

Now hopefully you won't ever have toothbrushes go missing in the garbage cans!

So grab some hooks and pvc, and make some diy toothbrush holders!  What are some of your organizing tricks you've set up at your house?  Come share them at this month's Point of View link party!

Point of View--Organizing

It seems like a natural side effect of starting a new year is a desire to clean out and declutter every room in the house. The problem though, at least for me, is that I lose steam by the end of February and while my intentions were good, I never did make it though all the spaces I'd planned on.

Well, here's some good news: the theme for this month's Point of View and link party is Organizing.  So link up all your great organized rooms, closets, tips, tricks and let's be proud of all we've accomplished so far this year.  Then look through the other ideas and be inspired to keep going.

You can see instructions for my toothbrush holders here.

All the link ups will be added to our POV Pinterest board and if you missed the Point of View Door post, that link party is still open as well so any time you have a project involving a door you can go back and link up there.

Grab a button for the party, and check back next week to see if you were featured here or on one of the other participating blogs.

Lacy Vinyl Jar

Some time ago I painted the inside of this jar with blue paint and I love the color.

It seemed like it needed a little something extra lately though so I busted out the vinyl.   It was so easy too!  I just found a border file that I liked, sized it so it would fit all the way around my jar and cut it out.

Then I wrapped it around the jar and did my best to line up the ends--but it's in the back to it didn't have to be perfect.

Do you have any jars around your house that could use a little vinyl touch?

Puff Pastry Valentine Dessert

If you're still looking for a fun little dessert for your Valentine's Day dinner, I have the perfect solution for you.  What's great is that not only does it taste divine, it's way easier than it may look.

You just need these 3 ingredients and a heart cookie cutter.
Vanilla ice cream, Puff Pastry sheets and Boysenberry syrup.(though any kind, including chocolate is good...but trust me on the boysenberry. So good!)

Let the dough defrost, per package instructions (about 40 minutes sitting on the counter)  This lets you unfold the dough without it breaking.

Cut heart shapes in the dough and transfer carefully to a lightly sprayed cooking sheet.

Bake at 400 for 10-15 minutes until golden brown.  Set to cool on a rack.

Once cooled, split in half with a fork and put the bottom piece in a bowl.

Add a scoop of vanilla ice cream then the top half of the heart puff.  Drizzle with syrup and serve.  Then enjoy the praise :)

Let me know if you try it, and what the favorite syrup flavor ends up being at your house.
