Entertainment Center Craft Storage

A while ago I did a guest post at The Cards We Drew when Abbey had her baby.  I wrote a post on my blog the same day about how I actually painted the entertainment center, but this post will show you how I organized the inside. It’s also reminding me that I already need to reorganize a few things in there.

This is one of my favorite…and most needed…projects I’ve done lately.  I’ll show you why.

One corner of my bedroom: Supplies spilling everywhere!

Please tell me you have a place like this in your house.  Even if you don’t, just tell me so I feel better!  This poor corner of my room had boxes of paint and ribbon, felt and tissue paper just piled up in a mess.  And it’s not the only corner that looked like this. Without a craft room to call my own, I needed a better solution.

I knew there had to be a way to contain it all, and this lucky Craigslist find was just $30!  I love that it has doors to cover the whole thing, and they’re bifold, so they don’t take up too much space when they’re open.

After painting it and adding beadboard to the back inside, I just started filling the space.

The bottom shelves are perfect for the storage boxes that are often on sale at Michaels, as well as flat space for plastic stencils.  I have all my craft paint in these boxes.

The large area fits a plastic 3-drawer unit where I have sewing supplies, fabric and ribbon scraps.  I also have lidded plastic boxes to hold felt, pink gift boxes with things like magnets and thumbtacks inside, and another storage box from IKEA for collecting small boxes and containers that might be useful to craft with. To the left of the plastic drawers I have a self healing mat for my rotary cutter and a large picture frame.

The top shelf has baskets that I found at the dollar store and two small tins that I spray painted pink.  This is the random catch-all section.  Those baskets hold things like a small glass candlestick, some corkboard, an empty picture frame…but since they’re in nice matching baskets, you can’t even tell!

So what do you think?  Can you tell why I love my new craft cabinet so much?
