Cute Sock Puppets and Giveaway

This post is sponsored by Darice and all thoughts and opinions are my own.

{Sock puppet kits for kids to encourage play and creativity}

It's finally the first official day of our summer vacation! I've declared it to be a totally lazy day, where the only chores that need to be done are the ones required for survival and I don't care if we're in our PJs til after lunch.

I expect the rest of our summer to be filled with hikes, a trip or two to the beach, lots of reading, biking, movies, learning worksheets, playing, creating, parks, and even bored time.

But one of the things that my kids will keep coming back to are their new puppets! Sock Friends Puppets kits come with everything needed to make a complete sock puppet and you can find them at places like Jo-Ann Fabric, Michaels, Meijer and other retailers (selection may vary.) There are animals like Owl and Giraffe, Monsters, a Princess and a Dragon, and more!

Here's a video with more details:

There's also an app for the iPhone where you can bring your creations to life!

Each of the kits comes with all the pieces to make a puppet, including sticky tape to attach everything. We found that the tape was very sticky and worked well to hold things together on the puppet, but my 5-year-old needed help with it. My 8 and 10-year-olds were able to work on them by themselves though. On just a couple of pieces we discovered that we needed a bit of hot glue (like when using feathers) so that's a job I took over of course.

We also loved the door puppet theatre! I simply taped up the tabs to the door frame, and the kids put on a fabulous puppet show for me.

We even made some Story Starters. You can print out this sheet that has a few circles filled in, and some blank ones where you can add your own. Cut each one out and laminate if desired. Then the kids have to pick 3 cards and they have to incorporate each into their play somehow. It gives their creativity a little push when they have to combine SCHOOL, SPACE SHIP and BANANA into one story :)
