Fall Jars with Dollar Store Flowers!

{Burlap and Lace Mason Jars for Fall}

I kind of fell in love with these cream colored sunflowers at the Dollar Tree the last time I was there. I was surprised, because it's tough to find good fake flowers that don't break the bank, you know? So I picked up a few things and came home with a plan.

Here's how you can make your own fall jars. Gather these supplies:

Clean jars (canning, peanut butter, jam, salad dressing, etc)
Chalky paint (purchased, or make your own chalk paint)
Brush
Burlap
Lace trim

Dollar store sunflowers and "grass"
Hot glue

Start by painting the outsides of the jars. You'll need at least two coats. Let the first coat dry completely so that it doesn't start to pull off when you add the second coat (this happened to me and I had to wait!) If you want to distress the jars, sand the paint off of a few places. I left mine alone.

When the jars are all dry, add a strip of burlap around the middle of each one and secure with a bit of hot clue around the back side.

Then wrap a piece of trim on top of the burlap. The kind I had was actually adhesive already, which made it super easy to attach of course. Otherwise, use a drop of hot glue again in the back.

Finally, just add the flowers and extras to the jars. Super simple and cute yeah? What would you put in cute fall jars?

  11. These are so cute! Love the look of sunflowers in the fall, and the matte finish on the jars is so pretty.

    You never know what you'll find at the dollar store . . . we're planning a big birthday party for my grandmother next month, and we have a major leopard theme going on. I was planning to hunt down orange flowers for centerpieces when, lo and behold, my mom found leopard print flowers at our local dollar store! Crazy. They're perfect!

  19. Hi - very happy to have found your fabulous site - The "Fall Jars" are festive and I have the materials needed (except the Dollar Tree Flowers) - I just have a question I hope you can answer - I have crafted for years yet am not sure why the use of the "chalky paint" - reading the comments it was mentioned it gave a matte finish - I followed the link to the "jewelry holder" and read how to make the paint - just not sure exactly what it is - I grew weary of the chalkboard paint projects after making several - I am tasked with decorating for a dinner at our church with Spanish, Asian and African themes and your site is really going to help with all the amazing ideas/projects - Thank you - it is a real treasure trove
    If you find time to explain the chalky paint thing I would really appreciate it -
