Extra Thanks for Friends

Today we're talking about a simple way to give extra with Extra gum. But first, a back story.

I've told you that I've started going back to school to finish a degree. It's strange being back in school again. And certainly different than the first time around when I was single and living with a set of room mates I'd never met before. My second year in college I had a pretty rough start. The excitement from my Freshman year was gone, I was trying to figure out how to live in an apartment versus the dorms and I was feeling homesick--which hadn't happened really my first year.

One evening in the first few weeks of school some of my friends had stopped by my apartment and heart attacked the my door. It was so sweet and just what I needed. It helped get me back into a good place and be ready to have a great year, which I did.

I'd love to raise my kids to be the same kinds of friends. To help cheer up someone who's sad, to always find ways to say thank you.

It was so easy to pick up some packs of Extra gum--there are so many good flavors!

So we decided to find a simple way to give Extra Thanks to some of their friends. I made some plain black fry boxes and we tied them up with pretty string and ribbon. You could skip the box if you want and just tie some string around the package of gum, but we liked how this dressed them up a little more.

Then I had the kids pick some friends they wanted to visit and we delivered our thank-you gifts to them. We also included small notes that said things like
"Thank you for being Extra funny when I need to be cheered up."

"Thank you for showing Extra kindness to people who are new in our class."

I hope it helps them remember to be kind, say thank you, and look for ways to bring a smile to someone else. They sure make me smile!

  1. I love the way you are teaching your children to think of others. And what a fun and easy way to do it! I think I may need to go pick up some Extra gum and do the same thing. :)
