Cozy Fall Fashion

The rain has come back and temperatures are dropping. In fact, I just turned on the heaters for the first time yesterday. If hot chocolate, soup and cozy blankets don't get you excited for the new season, then these fall fashion ideas are sure to.

And I have to say that I love the idea of blanket scarves - it's now fashionable to leave the house wrapped up in a blanket! See some of my favorites here - there a over a dozen pattern options, and they're $12 or less, plus Amazon Prime!! (my affiliate link - doesn't change your cost but sends a few cents my way to keep the blog up and runnin'!)

Flower Bulb Gift and Giveaway

{Package bulbs as a cute gift}
This post is brought to you by FloraCraft® as part of their Make it: Fun® Team

 I love every month when a mystery box of foam supplies and shapes shows up at my door step. I have to admit I was totally stumped at first knowing I was supposed to come up with a gift idea to share with you. I had to think about it for a few days, even started playing around with a few of the shapes, but nothing was quite coming together until I made these flower bulb gifts. They’re easy, adorable, thoughtful, and you can make several of them at once and pass them out to some friends this weekend!

Craft Fail by Heather Mann

Being creative can definitely have its ups and downs.
Heather Mann's hilarious new book, CraftFail highlights the downs by letting us laugh at crafty disasters and reminds us that we're not alone when Pinterest-Perfection falls out of reach.

I usually try to show my best projects around here--I carefully set up pictures, edit them, and give tips and tricks for making it turn out beautifully. But I don't want you to think my life is like that all the time.
  • I've left sugar out of a sweet bread recipe
  • I tried making cookie cups by molding dough around an upside-down muffin tin and it all welded together in the oven into one big mess
  • I've had glitter spilled all over my table
  • I tried making an ancient style oil lamp out of playdough for a prop, and it ended up looking more inappropriate than anything
  • I did my best to make over a side table I got for free from a nursing home and in addition to the paint recipe and wax combination I tried to use that took chunks of paint off in weird ways-I never could get rid of the medicine cabinet smell in the drawer. eeew!

This book makes a perfect gift for the crafty (or not-so-crafty) people in your life. You'll see inspiration photos, as well as the disastrous but well intentioned results. Leave it out as a coffee table book and you and your visitors can laugh along with the witty commentary.

What have been some of your "funnest" craft fails?

Heather Mann, the founder of CraftFail.com and DollarStoreCrafts.com, has been crafting with middling success all her life, but blogging expertly since 2000. She is also cofounder of The Blueprint Social, a social media consulting company and network of influential bloggers, and cohost of the web show “Get a Little Creative.” She lives and crafts in Salem, Oregon

Easy Granola Recipe

{Granola Recipe}

This is a recipe that I got several years ago from my sister-in-law and it's a favorite with my kids. It makes a great topping for yogurt or ice cream, or just a snack.

Mix 1 cup powdered milk
1 cup brown sugar
1 tsp salt
1/2 cup canola oil
1/2 cup water
1/2 TBS vanilla
1/2 TBS cinnamon

Then pour over
4 cups cornflakes
3 cups old fashioned oats

Mix well and spread on two cookie sheets. Bake at 325 for 20 minutes, stirring at 10 minutes. Let cool in pan then store in airtight container.

Do you have any favorite granola recipes? What kinds of extra things do you like to add in--coconut? almonds? raisins or craisins? Let me know!

Last Minute Halloween

{Last Minute Halloween Ideas}

We may be halfway through October now, but there's still plenty of time to bust out some Halloween projects. This post has last minute ideas from my creative blogger group and I think you'll definitely find some things you'll like here.

80s Prom Dress Costume

{DIY 80s prom dress costume}

I'm excited to be participating in the Masquerade Party at Free Time Frolics. Be sure to visit Adrienne's blog for tons of costume ideas!

You never know when you'll need a good 80's prom dress. When that occasion arises, I've got you covered. I dreamed up this little number in preparation for SNAP back in April knowing that one night there was an 80's prom themed party. I'm pretty sure I'll be wearing it for Halloween also, because this is a dress that’s begging to be worn again.

Halloween Candy Wreath

{DIY Candy Wreath}
I made a candy wreath with my kids as part of this shop which has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone.#CollectiveBias #Treats4All

Last Friday my kids had no school so I decided it was the perfect opportunity to do some Halloween crafting. Just like me, they love Halloween decorations. and so they were super excited when I told them we'd be making a candy wreath and then having a pizza lunch before we went to the park to spend the afternoon.

Meet This Mormon

 Pinable Image
We belong to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints otherwise known as "The Mormons". We are proud of this part of who we are! I'm excited to team up with over 65+ of us strong... to extend an invitation to see a film. A film entitled "Meet The Mormons". This film is not meant to be an "in your face" - you must join our church film. It is simply designed and produced to uplift and inspire you through six stories of those of our faith who have followed promptings to follow Christ more fully in their lives. We hope you take the opportunity to enjoy this film. We hope your hearts are made light as you feel the goodness that comes from following our Christ and Savior. All proceeds from the film will be donated to The American Red Cross. So not only will you be uplifted and inspired, your money will be going to an amazing charity!!

Halloween Bean Bags

{Cute Halloween Bean Bag DIY}

Halloween bean bags by Crafting in the Rain

I made these all the way back in 2014, and I'm thinking now of how easy it would be to recreate with the Cricut Maker - it could cut the fabric, and then iron-on vinyl for the decorations!

What's in My Bag

About a month ago I was featured over at A Glimpse Inside in her Handbag series. It was kind of fun to go through what I had in my purse and see what it said about me. Want to see what I usually carry around with me?

My bag is a Fossil bag that I actually won in a drawing a couple years ago! I love that it's not too big. In fact, it was the perfect size for when my husband and I traveled all over Portugal last May.

I don't know that any of its contents are particularly telling about me, but here's what you'll find.

Glitter Spider and Hula Hoop Web

{Turn a hula hoop into a spider web}

When's the last time you played with a hula hoop? I've certainly never been good at spinning one, but I loved spinning this web!
