Glitter Monster Truck Shirts

About a month ago my husband had the great idea to take all the kids to Monster Jam.

We went last Saturday (an actually really fun way to spend Valentine’s Day.) Asher was the one most looking forward to it. In fact, he owns a shirt with a monster truck and he refused to wear it for a whole month because he wanted to save it for the show!

A few days before the rally, Emily mentioned that she wished she had a monster truck too. Well, you know what that means for this crafty momma. Enter my Cricut Explore, some glitter vinyl and two blank t-shirts I had.

So, just in case you have a need to whip up any monster truck shirt on the day of Monster Jam (or for any other reason) you can get it done in 30 minutes or less.

(and I’m laughing as I write this because I’m currently watching Gilmore Girls, right at the Thanksgiving episode where Jackson deep fries the turkey and Sooki says “He should have just driven it out on a Monster Truck.) Ah, fun coincidences.

ANYWAY…

Start by bringing in you monster truck image into Design Space and sizing it to about 6 inches wide.

Place the iron-on vinyl (shiny side down) onto the mat and send the image to the machine.
I bought both kinds of glitter vinyl from Expressions Vinyl.

I’ve found that glitter vinyl is a little thicker than regular iron-on vinyl, so I had to twist the dial one more notch. Be sure to check the “mirror image” box before cutting.

After it’s cut, weed away the extra vinyl and place down on the front of the t-shirt. Lay down some iron transfer paper and press each section down for at least 30 seconds with a hot iron. When the image has cooled, peel the plastic backing off.

With all the kids in their monster truck fashion we headed off to the show. And boy were we glad we had ear plugs for us and noise-cancelling headphones for the kids!
