Cheez-it Caramel Corn

In just the last couple of weeks we’ve watched some basketball games with our kids. Even though we’re not huge sports fans, it was fun to explain parts of the game to them and watch them be so excited when our team scored! Plus, anyone can become a basketball fan when you have fun snacks to share during the game. This recipe combines my favorite caramel popcorn recipe with Cheez-It Crunch’d.

1/2 cup butter
3/4 cup dark brown sugar
2 tbs corn syrup
1/8 tsp salt
1/4 tsp baking soda
6 cups air popped popcorn (or microwaved popcorn)
3 cups Cheez-It Crunch’d, cheddar flavor

Combine popcorn (remove any unpopped kernels) and Cheez-It Crunch’d in a microwave safe bowl.

In a 4 cup glass measuring cup combine butter, dark brown sugar and corn syrup. Microwave on HI for 2 minutes. Stir, then microwave for 1 1/2 minutes. Add baking soda and stir. It will become kind of frothy. Pour over popcorn and Cheez-It mixture and stir to coat. Microwave in the bowl for 1 minute and stir again.

Spread on foil to cool. Then enjoy your crunchy, sweet and cheesy treat! With 100% real cheese baked into every cracker, you’ve got a tasty winner.

To make it even more fun, put together some basketball treat cups to serve your snack mix in.

Supplies:
white paper cups
white cardstock
black marker
sticky dots

Print then cut out the backboard shapes (click to download the basketball backboards.)  Turn each cup into a net by drawing horizontal and vertical lines with the black marker. Use a sticky dot to attach the boards the the backs of cups.

Fill with the Cheez-It caramel corn. Since I picked up a box of Cheez-It Grooves as well while I was at Walmart, those also went into the basketball cups.

I also want to make sure you guys know about the Most Valuable Cheese Contest that runs February to April 2015. You can vote on your favorite flavor/variety from 6 popular Cheez-It flavors, plus play games for a chance to win $10,000. And the Snackable Moments Site has dozens of other ways to use Cheez-It in your game celebrations.

Does this sound like a snack recipe you’ll try? What game foods are your favorite?
