Laundry Room Decorating with Vinyl

I’m so excited to be part of VinylPalooza hosted by A Girl and a Glue Gun and sponsored by Expressions Vinyl! (some links may be affiliate)

We may be knee-deep in a whole main floor remodel (hurray our kitchen is all done except for the backsplash!) But because I’m crazy, and I simply can’t stay away from crafting, I also did some decorating in my laundry room. I still have other things I’d like to do in there, but let me show you what I’ve started already.

Let’s start with the soap jar, since it’s the easiest. I have used glass etching cream before, but it’s expensive and messy, so I was really excited to try this silver etched vinyl on a large plain jar. I simply created a label design, cut it out and applied it to the jar. I rolled up a piece of pink paper so there would be a nice contrast for you to see in the photo.

Next the 3 bag laundry sorter. Now that we have an actual laundry room in our house, I have each of the kids leave their dirty laundry here instead of their closets. With 3 kids, each one gets a bag.  This project uses iron-on vinyl, which I just love to work with.

In case you were wondering, yes, the white background pattern took forever for my machine to cut out. And you might think it would take forever to weed out the little parts, but I have a trick to share with you! Use pieces of painters tape or washi tape to pull off the little pieces like this. Even the bad phone video gives you the idea.

**Remember to mirror your image when cutting iron-on vinyl and place the shiny side down onto your mat.

Iron down the background onto the fabric bag. For the names I used black flocked vinyl. It’s got a really cool velvety texture to it. (It can be layered over other iron-on vinyl, but don’t apply other vinyl over it- it should be the top layer.)

I didn’t have to change my cut settings for the flocked vinyl, it was the same as regular iron-on. Center the name and place the plastic liner from the background piece on top to protect that first layer of vinyl from your iron.

The final laundry room decor I’ve got for you today is my laundry sign. Did you know that Expressions Vinyl sells patterned vinyl? I knew right away I wanted to use this black and white polka dot vinyl because it’s just so cute… I cut out each letter to be about 5.5 inches tall. Use a level to draw a line on the wall and line up each of the letters, and tape in place.

While still taped, peel away the back layer and press each letter to stick to the wall. To make it even more fun I tapped tiny nails around the letters and wrapped with pink crochet string.

I used a bit of glue to stick the string ends and hide them. If you don’t want this many holes in your wall, use the same technique to outline patterned vinyl on a wood board. But it looks pretty cool, huh!

Oh my goodness. I need to step up my laundry game. Obviously. Your dryer is so rad! Do you think this encourages you to actually DO more laundry. Some days I need a lot of laundry motivation lol! xoxo
