DIY Ikat Canvas Painting

This is just about the easiest art project you can do, and it's a great way to bring some personalized color to your decorating. If I can do this, anybody can!

Here's what you'll need:
Canvas (often on sale, or use a coupon, at your craft store)
Paint brush (a decent one--doesn't need to be super high quality, but not a 25c foam brush either)
Paints --a Dark, Medium and Light color. (I used DecoArt
soft jade, coastal waters, and deep turquoise)

Water for rinsing

I made a video of the whole process, which is probably more helpful than the steps, but I listed those out too.

Step 1: Starting with the darkest color, paint short vertical lines that make a zig-zag shape across the canvas. Use the brush to drag the color up and down.

Step 2: Use the medium color to add lines above and below your first one. Drag the paint up and down a bit to blend into the dark color.

Step 3: Repeat with the light color, and repeat the pattern until the whole canvas is filled.

Step 4: Finish with any touch ups (too much white space, a little more blending, etc)

Step 5: (OPTIONAL) Paint the edges of the canvas with the medium color paint and let dry.

Now hang it up and enjoy your custom ikat artwork!
