Gold Stencil Wall

This post brought to you in partnership with Modern Masters. Thoughts and opinions are my own.

You know those projects that you start out, and you think you know exactly what you want, but then as you get farther along, you're not loving it? That totally happened with me on this one wall behind my craft table in the bedroom. I knew I wanted a custom stencil, so I cut one with my Cricut and stencil material.

I looked through some paint I had from previous projects and decided on bright pink and grayish-blue.

It was supposed to be a quick project, one that I could easily get done before my college classes started back in the middle of September. Oh, the famous last words of "this shouldn't take too long."

So I stuck the stencils up on the wall and started painting. In my "let's just get started so it can just get done" mentality, I just placed the stencils randomly around the wall. I got a few done, stepped away from the wall, and thought "uh, no"  The spacing was all wrong, it looked funny with two colors, and the pink ones looked like peppermint candies on the wall! Not exactly what I was going for.

It was then I knew that a metallic Olympic gold from Modern Masters would be perfect on that wall, but I had the dilemma of the pink and blue already on the wall, so I needed to paint over them to get a blank slate. I decided to go with a pretty pale pink (after painting primer over the designs already on the wall. Remember how I thought this was going to be a quick project? Yeah, not so much. But at least I was excited again about my new direction with gold.

Once the wall was finally painted, I decided to have a bit more structure with how I placed the stencil on the wall. I measured and drew marks so that everything would be more evenly placed, and it looks a lot better this way.

The gold has a perfect shimmer to it, don't you think?

It's the perfect backdrop for my table, and all my crafty goodies. What do you want to paint with gold paint? Use the store locator or order online.
