Top Posts of 2016

It's the end of 2016! One of my favorite things is looking past through the blog posts I've written through the year and find out which ones have been most popular. Some of my overall popular posts have still come from previous years (like my April Fool's baking sheet post and my fall fashion post)

But it's great to see what new posts I wrote that you all liked. This year I'm seeing a big trend of Cricut tutorials :) so I hope that's been helpful!  Did you get a Cricut for Christmas? Don't miss those then.

Rainbow Felt Ball Garland

(post may contain affiliate links)

Right when my kids went back to school in December, I painted both of the girls' rooms. Since then I've been slowly adding some decorations and custom stuff for them. I asked Emily what kind of signs or quotes she might want.

She knew right away she wanted something from The Princess Bride and from Harry Potter. This sign simply says "INCONCEIVABLE" but it really makes a statement!

How to Use Your Own Images in Cricut Design Space

If you've ever wondered if you can upload your own images to cut (or print then cut) with your Cricut, the answer is YES! And it's not hard like you might think either. Plus, I'm going to walk you through the whole process, and even have a video linked up below, so by the end of the post, you'll totally have the power.

Creative Gift Wrapping for Christmas and Giveaway

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of The Gorilla Glue Company. All opinions are 100% mine.

How's all that Christmas wrapping coming for you? Let me just tell you I'm a sucker for pretty packaging. I used the love the creative ways my parents would come up with for wrapping Christmas gifts. I remember my mom even one time saying that she wished those school fundraisers would sell cute gift toppers along with those rolls of wrapping paper :)

Flash forward a few years, and now I'm wrapping presents for my own kids and love to dress them up a little too. When you're not just tying a bit of ribbon around a box though, you need something with some real sticking power so your work doesn't get bumped off under the Christmas tree. Enter Gorilla Hot Glue Sticks. They work in any glue gun, high or low heat, and the glue is 5 times more durable, and works for indoor or outdoor projects. Gorilla Hot Glue Sticks are available only at Walmart, and I found them in the craft aisle.

So let me show you how I decorated these pretty packages. Start by wrapping the box with plain brown paper. You'll usually find this near shipping supplies. Next gather some pretty ribbon and craft flowers. I purchased a package of these flowers already assembled, but you could easily make your own with burlap, paper and fabric (and Gorilla Hot Glue Sticks of course.)

Start by wrapping some ribbon around the package and securing it with hot glue. This seemed to be particularly important on the ribbon that had wire in the edges. It didn't want to lay down nicely on the box. Try mixing ribbon types, and different spots on the box, and not just always crossing right in the center of the box, just to change it up.

Then use the Gorilla Hot Glue Sticks to stick flowers down on the ribbon and the present. Don't you just love how they turned out? They fit in perfectly with my pink and gold decorated Christmas tree.

It's certainly not necessary to have your tree and presents match, but it sure is fun when a few of them do. And my kids always get super excited when even just a couple of presents show up under the tree.

The hot glue was also really handy when one of my shirt boxes had come apart on one end. Fixed it up super quick, and I knew it would hold and be stronger than just tape. Glue guns for everything!

I hope you like these fancy present wrapping ideas and that I've inspired you to dress up your Christmas presents - and that it can be totally easy! Other options of what you could use for fancy gift wrapping are jingle bells, small ornaments or disco balls, cookie cutters (just tie them into the ribbon and they can be used later), silk flowers, bits of fake mistletoe or holly. Really, this list is quite long when you think about it and let your imagination run a little wild.

And to wrap up this post (ha ha) you can enter this gift card giveaway. Good luck, and thanks for reading! Gorilla Hot Glue Sitcks $250 Gift Card Giveaway

Star Ornament with Vinyl

I partnered up with Expressions Vinyl and a bunch of other fabulous bloggers to bring you DIY ornament ideas made with vinyl. Read my tutorial, then visit all the other posts at the end. >>>VOTE HERE to enter the giveaway<<

This year, I went ahead and did it. I bought myself another Christmas tree! When we first moved into this house a couple of years ago, I knew that a tree would look great in the living room, right between the two front windows. And I was right. We have our fabulously colorful and festive tree in the family room, next to the fireplace, and full of all the cute and special ornaments we've collected over the years.

Easy Appetizers with Kaukauna® Sharp Cheddar Cheese Ball

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #InspireWithCheese #CollectiveBias

It's the time of year that we love to get together and celebrate with friends and family. I have an easy appetizer idea for you that will let you focus on the company and not be stressed about the food. We served these just last week at Thanksgiving, and you can take these same snacks with you to office parties, potlucks and any time you're hosting.

I'll even show you the cute serving dish I whipped up!

First, you'll need to pick up your ingredients from Fred Meyer.
Kaukauna® Sharp Cheddar Cheese Ball
Kaukauna® Double Sharp Cheddar Cheese Log
Olive Oil

At home, melt 3 TBS butter and 1 TBS olive oil in a pan. Chop 3 cloves of garlic into large chunks and stir around in the hot butter for 30-60 seconds. Then remove the garlic pieces.

Cut the baguette into slices. Brush the garlic infused butter / oil mixture onto the slices and place in a single layer on a cookie sheet. Broil in the oven for just a few minutes to toast them. You'll want to watch them closely so they don't burn!

Remove from the oven and place on a serving tray with the Kaukauna® Sharp Cheddar Cheese Ball.

For the cheese log, I found the perfect sized rectangle plate. Using my Cricut machine, I cut glitter vinyl to say "cheese please."

I applied it to the top of the plate and then added the Kaukauna® Double Sharp Cheddar Cheese Log and surrounded it with crackers. After the party, you can take off the vinyl and it goes back to being a regular plate!

When it's time to eat, spread cheese on a baguette slice or a cracker and enjoy! You and your guests will love it. It's guaranteed to be a dish that everyone will enjoy.

Tealight Ornament with Cricut

I was so excited when Kelsey of Poofy Cheeks had the idea to do an ornament blog hop where we all use our cutting machine to make an awesome DIY ornament, and then show you how to make them too!

I wanted an ornament that I could stick a tealight into and make it glow on the tree. I found the Santa and sleigh image in Design Space and added the other shapes to turn it into a cutout that could be folded into a small box to hold the tealight. LINK to the Design Space FILE

Cut the file out of any color cardstock you want. I made a black and a red version.

(some links are affiliate)
Use your Cricut Explore Air (or new, faster Explore Air 2) to cut and score the file.

Remove the cut out from the mat and before folding, glue a small piece of tissue paper to cover the cut out design. Trim the edges, then fold all the score lines and glue the box together.

Glue a piece of ribbon or string around the ornament so it can hang. Position it close to the front of box so it will stay in balance when it's on the tree.

Set a tealight in it, and enjoy your newest creation! So, tell me what you think in a comment below, and then visit all my friends to see what they made too.

Easy Service Ideas for Christmas

I'm excited to partner with mormon.org on this post about finding ways to serve during the Christmas season.

Merry Christmas everyone! Are you starting to plan out your next few weeks? There will be shopping of course for gifts and parties, meals and whole afternoons of baking. Would you like to find ways to help you and your family stay focused on the real meaning of Christmas too?

I know I always want to, but sometimes so many other things get scheduled in that I never feel like I have time left over to do a big act of service.

If you’re like me there, you will love the Light the World ideas for 25 Days, 25 Ways. For every day in December leading up to Christmas, you’ll find a few different ideas of things you can do to try to follow the example of the Savior in some way. Let me share with you a couple of things that we’ve already done so that you can see how easy it is!

On December 14th, the prompt is “Jesus Taught Us To Clothe the Naked”  In two different instances we were able to help out. First, the girls at church are collecting new socks of all sizes to donate to a local shelter. Then, my two elementary-aged kids picked an ornament of their giving tree at school. Both children had requested clothes, so we picked out some cute, warm clothes that will hopefully be just what they need. After we’d finished our shopping, we spotted a gorgeous rainbow out in the parking lot and snapped a picture.

As you look through the calendar of ideas, maybe a different idea will come to you – follow through! Maybe it’s paying for the drink of someone behind you in the drive through line, maybe it’s volunteering in your kids’ school class for an hour, maybe it’s just a quick call to check in on someone.

Think of all the good we can do by finding very small ways to serve. And keep the good going by sharing your ideas with the hashtag #LIGHTtheWORLD. I’ll be following it, because I love to hear of good things people do for each other. I hope you enjoy this holiday season and find that you’re able to strengthen your faith, family and community. Visit Mormon.org to find your own way to serve.

$400 Joy Giveaway

Hey everyone, it's my favorite time of the year! Yesterday was my birthday, today is my son's birthday, it's Thanksgiving this week and then it's the Christmas season! I have so much to be thankful for, and I love finding ways to help other people.

How to Revive a Tired Couch

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #RollAwayLint #CollectiveBias

Our sectional couch in our family room is the most comfortable couch we've ever owned. We love it! Besides being the perfect place for our whole family to hang out and watch a movie, we've had guests sleep on it when we've had a full house. Part of what makes it so comfortable are the down-filled cushions.

And even though the feathers are all contained in an insert inside the cushions, some feathers still manage to work their way out and make a bit of a mess on the couch. Then the back cushions get smooshed out of shape pretty easily.

Once a week or so I have to give my couch a little refresh, and I've just discovered Scotch-Brite™ 50% Stickier Lint Rollers which makes the job a ton easier. In fact, I was inspired to clean under all the cushions too!

Merry Christmas Sign

Wishing you a Merry Christmas!
(some links are affiliate)

Do you guys just love cute Christmas signs? I know I do! This one is easy to make because it uses a pre-made sign base (got in on sale at the craft store - which saved me the step of cutting and assembling the wood sign) and a single, pre-designed file in Design Space.

Once you have your sign base, either that you buy or make yourself, measure it so you know how to size the vinyl piece in Design Space.
