My poor little boring door has been empty since we moved in about a year and a half ago. (I think I may have had something up at Christmas.) But I wanted to make something that would fit all summer, and not be strictly red, white and blue. When I found this wooden star I knew it would be perfect! I posted about it last month at Today’s Creative Life, but I’m sharing it again in case you missed it. (here’s where I tell you some of the following links are affiliate links–have fun shopping!)
Here’s the supply list:
Wooden star (I found mine at Craft Warehouse, but most craft stores should carry something similar)
Faux succulents (check your dollar store even!)
Faux moss
Foam
Gold paint
Blue paint
Burlap ribbon or Command Strips (if hanging)
Glue
Paint first and it will dry while you work on other steps. I just chose 3 of the succulents to spray paint and the others I left. I used a very dry brush to add a bit of blue to the outline of the star to keep it very rustic looking.
Trace out the shape of one star point and cut the foam and moss to fit. Glue the moss to the foam and the foam inside the star. My favorite way to cut foam with basically no mess is this heated electric cutter.
When the paint is dry, poke the succulents down into the foam. I had to trim the stems with wire cutters.
Mine is hanging on the front door with a Command Strip on the back—but you could use some kind of ribbon, or even leave it as a standing decoration indoors.
