How to Clean Bathroom Vent Fans

Every once in a while I finally get around to cleaning the totally neglected spots in my house. Most recently, it was all the bathroom exhaust fans. It was seriously a job that needed to be done. In fact, I'm pretty sure it had never been done in the 14 years that this house has existed. But it's not as hard as you might think.

Morning Chores for Kids and a Giveaway

This post brought to you by The Gorilla Glue Company. The content and opinions expressed below are that of Crafting in the Rain.

Do you struggle with how to set up chores and job charts for your kids? I know I have, and I've tried a few different ways to assign jobs, keep track of them, keep them age appropriate, etc. And that's a chore in and of itself! This has been the best system for us for setting up jobs that the kids can do before school. I don't have to tell them what to do everyday, and the jobs rotate between kids without me having to remember to spin a wheel or update a list.

Easy Dinner for School Nights

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #NestleSchoolDays #CollectiveBias

As summer winds down all across the United States, houses are full of freshly sharpened pencils, squeaky new shoes and evenings that are usually full of homework, sports and music practice, school events, and then getting ready for the next day. We know that family dinner is an important part of a family routine.

Having some options that are tasty and require very little preparation are great to have on hand. Plus the easy treat will be a crowd pleaser. And I get to share this sweepstakes with you!

#NestleSchoolDays Sweepstakes

Head to Safeway and pick up a STOUFFER'S® Family Size Lasagna, an orange or yellow bell pepper, ranch dip, vanilla ice cream, NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® Refrigerated Cookie Dough, NESTLÉ® Fun Size BUTTERFINGER®. Visit the Safeway site to build your shopping list and get valuable coupons for Back-to-School favorites.

Bake the lasagna according to package instructions. While it's cooking, cut the pepper into slices and keep in the fridge. Press two cookie dough squares into the bottom of a ramekin or disposable mini pie tin (one for each person). Unwrap Butterfingers (one for each person) and place in a zipper plastic bag. Break into pieces using a rolling pin and set aside.

When the lasagna comes out of the oven, serve with peppers and ranch on the side. I love picking a single veggie as a side dish because it's even easier than making a whole salad. When everyone's about done eating dinner, heat the oven to 375, with a cookie sheet in the oven getting hot too. When it's preheated, place each ramekin or mini tin on the cookie sheet and bake for 11-12 minutes or until the edges are getting brown and the center is starting to set (it can still be soft in the middle).

Remove from oven and add a scoop of ice cream and top with crushed Butterfinger. Please note that THE DISHES WILL BE HOT! If you're serving young children, you may want to let it cool off a little more before you let them eat it. Then enjoy your soft gooey cookie and crunchy peanut-buttery Butterfinger bits with your favorite ice cream flavor.

Have you made these for a treat before? Do you think people at your house would love them? I hope it helped give you an idea for an easy weekday dinner for your family :)

Laughing Cow Cheese Dippers

The Laughing Cow provided me with product and a $50 gift card for this review. However, thoughts and opinions are my own and do not necessarily reflect those of the brand.

I know many of you have sent your kids back to school already, or are starting up in just a couple of days. After school snacks and school lunch stuffers are always on the mind, right?

We've got a death grip on summer and are squeezing in as much fun as we still can before we start on the last day of August.

Teal Painted Dresser

Painting a teal dresser for my daughter's room

Country Chic Paint sent paint and finishes to paint this dresser. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Meagan is currently obsessed with the color teal. We haven’t done much decorating in her room yet, but she does have a teal table as a nightstand, a teal blanket on her bed, a teal splatter of paint on her wall (not intentional) and now she finally has a beautiful dresser in her favorite color too!

We found the dresser on Craigslist, and picked up one for my 12 year old's room too from the same lady. I'll post about that one soon. Here's how it looked before we got started.

10 Tips for Success in Online Classes

As most of you know I'm working on a degree in web design by taking online classes. I'll graduate with a bachelors degree, and most of my general classes were taken care of when I went to college "in person" nearly 20 years ago. Whether completing an entire degree through an online program or supplementing on-campus learning with a class or two, almost half of college students take at least one course online. It's a different experience from a traditional class though, so here's what you need to know!

5 Things to Take on a Trip to New York City

(Some of these links are affiliate links -- shop easily and help support the blog at the same time!)

1--Purse with a lot of zippers and compartments. You don’t want to be THAT person at the subway entrance fumbling through your giant bag to find your wallet with your metro card in it. If there are a lot of divided sections in the purse it’s easy to find what you’re looking for, from your wallet to sunglasses to phone. Just make sure it's on the small side. You don't want it to be too big or heavy, and it's nice to be able to swing it around to carry in front of you in large crowds.
