Fashion Friday: What Will You Be?

I partnered with Cents of Style for this post and some links below are affiliate links. Thoughts and opinions are my own.

When we were kids and thought about what we wanted to BE, the answer was always what job you want to have. I want to BE a teacher, a firefighter, a ballerina, whatever. Then at some point, and maybe for me it wasn't even until I had kids myself, I realized an even more important BE. It's not the job title you have, it's the qualities you possess that define you. Those can be even trickier because they develop over time, and can decrease without our even noticing.

World Vision Global 6K for Water

I partenered with World Vision for this post.

You guys know I live in Washington - and here in the Pacific Northwest, we get a lot of rain. Not necessarily tons more rain than other places in the country, but certainly more cloudy and rainy days. We also have running waterin our house so we can take showers, brush teeth, flush toilets, run the dishwasher and washing machine. We even have a sprinkler system for our yard (which, honestly, really only needs to run for July and August :) Being surrounded by so much water, it's easy to forget that in developing countries, people have to walk an average of 6 kilometers (about 3.7 miles) every day to get water. It's usually women and young girls who have this task, and often the water they bring back is still contaminated with life-threatening diseases.

Will I use my Cricut Enough to Justify the Price?

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Cricut. The opinions and text are all mine. Some links are affiliate.

I think everyone gets a little nervous when they think about buying a big item for themselves, then worry it might just sit in the box. If you're buying a Cricut, you want to know if you'll get enough use out of it.

So I say let's take a look at this (incomplete) list of all the things you could make with your Cricut. Are you interested in any of these?

How Does the Cricut Machine Work?

Let’s get into the basics of how a Cricut works. (I've included some affiliate links so you find the exact products I'm talking about)
Your Cricut Explore machine needs power and internet access. You need to be able to connect it to a computer by Bluetooth, or with a cord OR with your iPad wirelessly.

Then you use the design program called Design Space online to create your projects. You can choose from hundreds of Make it Now projects, over 30,000 images, and over 370 fonts.

Benefits of Cricut Explore

There are several electronic cutting machines on the market these days - I have owned a few. You may have owned a few. And for someone looking to buy one, or upgrade, or switch brands, it can be confusing to know what the best machine is!

What is a Cricut?

Post contains affiliate links - if you make a purchase I get a small percentage and your cost stays the same. So, thanks!!

Cricut - noun, (pronounced just like the bug, "Cricket"), and pretty much the greatest crafting tool you could ever have.

I've written about Cricut machines for years - I even owned one of the original small ones all the way back in 2006. As much as I talk about it, there are still people who don't know what it is (or how to say it!) But don't worry, when I first read about it I thought it was "cry-CUT" too :)

Tips for Using Stretch Heat Transfer Vinyl

Siser North America sent me some HTV to review. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Some links in this post are affiliate.

Stretch Heat Transfer Vinyl is an iron-on vinyl that has, well, a bit of stretch to it! This makes it ideal for applying to all kinds of fabric. It works great on stretchy materials like Lycra®/spandex or cotton, and it's also fabulous for cotton poly blends, polyester and even leather! It has an ultra matte finish that is really pretty. I used it to dress up a baby onesie and it came out so cute because it layers perfectly.

Reset Your Day in Just 15 Minutes

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #MilkaMeetsOreo #CollectiveBias

You know those days when you can jump out of bed totally rested and ready to take on the day? Everything you need is right where you look for it, everyone gets ready for school on time, and you get through your to-do list with no snags at all? Um, can I have one of those days? Most of the time, things come along and throw us off, and we just have to adjust a bit to make it through. No big deal.
Milka Oreo Big Crunch Bar Chocolate Candy Bar

But sometimes there are days where I really feel like I'm dragging. Maybe I stayed in my pajamas too long working on my own homework after the kids went to school. Maybe something happens that messed up what I had really been looking forward to. I'm trying to not let those things ruin my whole day any more though, and I've found some things that help and I want to share with you. In 15 minutes or less, you can do an activity from this list and reset your day. Take charge, and decide that the rest of the day will go better!

As a bonus, pair any of these activities with new Milka Oreo Chocolate bars from Walmart.

You can try it too and save $1 with this ibotta offer -- click the picture!

• Spend 15 minutes cleaning your kitchen. You'll be invigorated with the quick difference in the before and after.

• Relax your neck. Warm the back of your neck with a heating pad for 5 minutes. Then do some neck stretches. Do shoulder rolls forward and backward, stretch neck leaning 30 seconds each side. Move slowly, and remember to breathe.

• Text a friend to say hi and let them know you're thinking of them. This always helps me feel less isolated.
• Release muscle tension. Lay on a bed or couch in a dark room. Add relaxing music if you like (try an app or YouTube for some spa music.) Starting with the muscles in your feet, tighten or flex for 8 seconds, then relax for 8 seconds. Move up to leg muscles, core muscles, arms, and even face muscles. Repeat a couple of times, then to finish, flex all muscles, hold for 8 seconds, and then relax. It's magical how this makes you feel less stressed!

• Enjoy a treat. These Milka OREO Chocolate Candy bars that I posted about last week are becoming a fast favorite. A few little squares wake up my taste buds and just make me happy!

• Get some fresh air and take a 15 minute walk. Just a quick circle around your neighborhood will get those endorphins pumping and you can handle what you have left at home or work.

What about you? What seems to work for you when you need a little pick-me-up, or something to turn your day around? And, try these Milka Oreo Chocolate Candy Bars and tell me what you think!

Siser StripFlock Coasters

Review of StripFlock vinyl sent to me by Siser North America. Post contains affiliate links.

Have any of you guys tried StripFlock vinyl on any of your projects? It's got such a great soft texture. It's perfect for baby onesies, like this Where the Wild Things Are onesie I made a few months ago.

For today's project I wanted to try it on something other than fabric to see if it would work, and I like the result!

Pretty Spring Mantel and Milka OREO Chocolate Bars

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #MilkaMeetsOREO #CollectiveBias

We just can't seem to get rid of the gray skies around here this winter! Even if it's not actually raining, the sky just stays dark. So I figured what better way to cheer myself up than with some spring-y crafting, and some chocolate!

Let's start with the chocolate, then I'll get to details about my spring mantel. OREO and Milka Chocolate have teamed up to make these NEW delicious treats. There's the Milka OREO Choco-Mix Snack Mix featuring mini OREO cookies, chocolate buttons, and candy coated chocolate pieces. This would make a fun trail mix or snack for your family movie night. The Milka OREO Chocolate Candy Bar has OREO cookie pieces in vanilla cream, all coated in Euoropean Milka chocolate candy. This was really popular with my kids. Then my favorite was the Milka OREO Big Crunch Bar Chocolate Candy Bar was my favorite. I definitely enjoyed it while working on these projects. This bar has a crunchy layer of OREO cookies in the center. I found them all at Walmart in the candy aisle.

DIY Pin Cushion from Chick-Fil-A Bowl

I'm a member of the Chick-Fil-A mom panel and got to try some tortilla soup for free. Lucky me, right? Opinions and craft idea are mine.

What do you do when you're given the challenge to upcycle a Chick-Fil-A tortilla soup bowl? Well, first you enjoy that tortilla soup of course! And then you get crafty with spray paint and fabric. I decided to turn mine into a cute pin cushion. Isn't it cute? Here's how you can make one too.

Supplies

  • Small chicken tortilla soup bowl, clean and dry
  • Spray paint
  • Fabric (about 6 inches square)
  • Polyfil

Steps for making the pin cushion
  1. Trim the tabs off the corners of the bowl.
  2. Spray paint with two light coats of paint and let dry completely.
  3. Wrap fabric tightly around fabric and secure with a small rubber band.
  4. Apply a bunch of hot glue inside the bowl and press the fabric down into the bowl, rubber band side down. Hold while the glue cools.
  5. Add pins to pin cushion and sew your next masterpiece! (Or let it sit and be cute on your craft table, like I will.)
What do you think of this DIY pin cushion? Will you make your own? What colors would you use?

Search the hashtag #chickfilaMomsDIY on social media for more creative upcycled bowl ideas too!

New Cricut Access Plans

**This post contains affiliate links and I will be compensated if you make a purchase after clicking on my links.

Hey there Cricut friends! If you’ve gone onto Design Space in the last week or so, you’ve seen that there are some new Cricut Access Membership Plans.  I’m going to tell you the differences between them so you can know what will work best for you!

You may be wondering if you will be required to use cartridges with your Cricut Explore. NOPE! (But -- if you do have a collection of carts already from your previous machines, you can still use them) There's a port on the machine where cartridges can still go even on the Explore and Explore Air machines. You also have the option of linking them to your Cricut Design Space account, and then you can use all of those images without having to switch out the physical cartridge each time.

So, on to the Access Plans. . .

This post is brought to you by Cents of Style. Shop through any of the links here and you get fab fashion at great deals and I earn a small commission - win win!

I don't know about you guys, but I am done with winter! I know, I know, I can't complain too much because at least we're not still covered with snow like a lot of places I know of (including places I have lived before!) But we had an above normal amount of ice and snow this winter, and several days of cancelled school. Now the temps are back in the 40s like they should be, but it keeps raining, and I miss the sun!

Super fast cheesecake baked right in the Instant Pot? I was skeptical too, until I tried it myself, and I'm a total believer! Did you get an Instant Pot for Christmas? Have you used it yet, or is it still in the box? What better way to get motivated than over a dozen Instant Pot Cheesecake recipes!

Instant Pot White Chocolate Raspberry Cheesecake

I'm trying to get more comfortable with my Instant Pot. I bought it a few months ago and just really haven't used it that often. Plus, my husband cooks dinner most of the time, so he's actually used it even more than I have! But I knew I had to try a cheesecake recipe!
(affiliate links included so it's easy for you to get what you need to make these) So I adapted this White Chocolate Cheesecake for the Instant Pot, and for using 3 mini pans instead of a regular 7 inch one

Abstract Gold Painting DIY

All our snow and ice and being stuck inside gave me some time to finally work on an art piece I've wanted to make for a while. I have several blank canvases that I've stocked up on, but had yet to commit to actually putting paint on any of them! Then I got about halfway through my painting and took it to Instagram to ask my friends there what they thought it still needed. Some people suggested black or another color like teal. Some liked the idea of splattered paint or glitter. I love the combo I ended up with!

Custom Baby Onesies with Cricut

Custom baby gifts with Cricut

Just a couple of months ago, my baby turned 8. I knew long ago that the "baby phase" was over for me. But luckily, I still have friends and family having babies - which means I still get cuddle time and baby crafting time! Making baby gifts with my Cricut is a breeze, and it's just one of the kinds of DIY projects you can make with a Cricut.

For this tutorial I'm showing you how to use iron-on vinyl to make custom baby onesies. Plus, you don't need to own a heat press to use heat transfer vinyl.

DIY Pencil Pouch (no zipper) and Pilot G2 Pens

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #PilotYourLife #CollectiveBias

Do you have a best pen for lists and planning? New year means calendaring, lists, organization, and for me – a new semester starting up. All of this means a lot of writing, so I’m happy that I’ve found a favorite pen to use - Pilot G2 Premium!
